1. Textul — „A Day at Hadley’s”

Citește dialogul următor. Nu te opri la cuvintele necunoscute — citește-l pe tot prima dată, ca să înțelegi povestea.

Hadley’s is a big department store in the centre of town. Emma and her friend Ravi are shopping there on a Saturday afternoon.

Emma: This place is enormous! It’s much bigger than the shopping centre near my house.

Ravi: I know! They’ve got everything here — a bookshop, a chemist’s, a sports shop, even a little bakery on the top floor.

Emma: Let’s go to the clothes section first. I’m looking for a nice summer dress for my cousin’s wedding.

Ravi: Sure. What kind of dress are you looking for?

Emma: Something elegant but not too formal. Maybe a long, light blue, cotton dress. Not too expensive, either.

Ravi: Look at this one! A beautiful, long, pale blue, Italian dress. It’s lovely!

Emma: Oh, I like it! Excuse me, could you tell me how much this dress is, please?

Shop assistant: Of course! That one is £75. It’s actually cheaper than the silk ones, which are £120. Would you like to try it on?

Emma: Yes, please. Where are the fitting rooms?

Shop assistant: Just over there, on your left. Can I help you with anything else?

Emma: Actually, could I also have a look at those small, round, silver earrings in the glass cabinet?

Shop assistant: Certainly! Here you are. They’re £18.50.

Ravi: They’re the prettiest earrings in the shop. They’d go really well with the dress.

[After paying, they walk past the Customer Service desk.]

Customer: Excuse me, I’ve lost a bag somewhere on the second floor. It’s a large, rectangular, brown, leather handbag. Could you help me find it?

Clerk: Of course, madam. Could you describe what was inside?

Customer: There was a small, square, black purse, my phone, and a pair of oval sunglasses.

Clerk: I’ll check the lost property office for you right away.

4.2 Grammar — Order of Adjectives

Când folosim mai multe adjective înaintea unui substantiv, ordinea lor în engleză nu este aleatoare. Există o regulă:

Opinion → Size → Age → Shape → Colour → Origin → Material → Purpose + NOUN

(Părere → Mărime → Vârstă → Formă → Culoare → Origine → Material → Scop + SUBSTANTIV)

Exemple din text:

“a beautiful [opinion], long [size], pale blue [colour], Italian [origin] dress”

“a large [size], rectangular [shape], brown [colour], leather [material] handbag”

small [size], round [shape], silver [colour] earrings”

Trucul mnemonic: OSASCOMP = Opinion, Size, Age, Shape, Colour, Origin, Material, Purpose

4.3 Funcții comunicative — Communicative Functions

A. Asking About Prices

“Could you tell me how much this dress is, please?”

“How much does this cost?” / “How much is this?” / “What’s the price of…?”

Răspunsuri: “It’s £75.” / “They’re £18.50.” / “That comes to £93.50.”

B. Polite Requests (could / can / would)

“Could I have a look at those earrings?”  (very polite)

“Can I help you with anything else?”  (offer)

“Would you like to try it on?”  (polite offer)

“Could you help me find it?”  (polite request)

Regulă: could + verb (infinitiv fără “to”). Could este mai politicos decât can.

5. Exerciții progresive — From Recognition to Production

Exercițiile sunt ordonate de la simplu la complex: mai întâi recunoști, apoi aplici, apoi creezi singur.

5.      5. wooden / lovely / Japanese / small / box → a _________________ box

“Inside there was/were [item 1], [item 2], and [item 3].”
